In 1999 the larger office addition was added to the entire South side of the Shafer home to make room for an Indoor Display, a designing computer for Gary and enough room for Kay Shafer and her daughter, Kim Shafer-Swank, to have their own desk-workstations to help individual families with some personal privacy.

When the larger office was added not only were they able to add an indoor display for customers to shop in indoor comfort, but they also expanded their Outdoor Display to have over 100 granite units on hand to view at one time. The motto for Shafer Memorials has always been "You can see what you buy" and the larger display now makes that even easier with a broader range of colors and styles to choose from. When a customer can stand next to the size and style of unit they are considering it makes it so much easier for the customer to envision if this is the correct choice for them.

The fact that Shafer Memorials now does their designing on a computer allows them to print out a 8x11 layout for a customer to consider. This has proven to be one of the best tools over the years. A customer can see the layout in proportion for their unit and they don't have to worry about interpetation--it's in black and white for them now. This also allows for a customer to choose between a few different designs that they are considering by seeing which they actually prefer when printed out in front of them.

The fact that the engraving is done on site by Gary Shafer and staff provides a feeling of relief to customers.
